In-Orbit Demonstration (IOD) of an IOD/IOV commercial service.

Description

In-Orbit Demonstration (IOD) of an IOD/IOV commercial service. It includes smart panels for flexible payloads integration and operations, real time access to payload via telecom constellation (Iridium), and high-capacity on-board processing.

Platform: 16U CubeSat with 3-axis pointing and low-thrust EP.
Payloads: Up to 11U, shared by up to 10 payloads.
Programme: General Support Technology Programme (GSTP).
Contractor: Orbital Oracle Technologies (DE).

In this project, a generic 16U platform for commercial IOD/IOV service is being developed, and required critical technologies matured to high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) such that they may be used in future operational missions with a lower risk. The platform can be tailored to the specific payload needs, by including higher accuracy attitude sensors, electric propulsion, or high-performance on-board payload data processing unit, for example, and can offer up to 12U of payload volume, depending on the selected configuration.

The objectives of the mission are threefold:

  1. To demonstrate the capabilities of the Generic Flexible Nano-satellite platform to successfully support the operations of number of IOD/IOV payloads in orbit for their minimum required duration and deliver the associated payload data to customers
  2. To demonstrate an independent IOD/IOV Service using the Generic Flexible Nano-satellite platform, web interface and service-related processes for IOD/IOV customers under commercial conditions
  3. To validate a sustainable business model by tracking all costs & revenues over the project lifecycle and re-evaluating the financial planning assumptions for the first fully commercial IOD/IOV Service mis
