Equipped with LEDs and retroreflectors for optical tracking from ground.

Description

Equipped with LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) and retroreflectors for optical tracking with ground-based telescopes and laser ranging observatories. Testing orbit and attitude determination by means of ground based optical observation and testing LED based optical communication.

LEDSAT will equip a bespoke digipeater system with both real tile and “store & forward” capabilities for radio-amateur use; the radio-amateur user can define the delay in the retransmission of the message in a range of 0sec to 24hours.

Results

The CubeSat switched on successfully after the deployment and all the parameters received through the telemetry were nominal. The LEDs payload was successfully switched on and observed by the S5Lab optical ground station network just 3 days after the deployment, proving the capability to detect the LEDs from ground.
