Off-the-shelf commercial smartphone as the control system for the satellite and other technology demonstrations.

Description

Active attitude determination and control system utilizing reaction wheels to provide three-axis control and precise pointing capability. This will serve as a demonstration to determine whether small satellites could be used to carry scientific instruments that require precise pointing to fulfill their function.

Equipped with a higher-gain S-Band antenna, which serves as a pathfinder for future NASA missions, including the EDSN mission. PhoneSat 2.5’s smartphone camera will attempt to transmit photographs to the ground station at Santa Clara University in California to gather information for future low-cost star trackers.
