Description

Dynamic profiling of the lower thermosphere, 90 - 160 km. Resolve detail of the O2 A-band emission line. OPAL constellation with overlapping FOVs.

The OPAL instrument was originally intended to fly on a new CubeSat bus that would have provided the necessary power and pointing capabilities for the mission. This bus was a new development to be donated to the program. However, on-orbit tests of the bus proved to be problematic, and the bus development was subsequently canceled.
