Astronika

Astronika is focused on providing compact, lightweight and energy-efficient solutions to our customers.

• The presentation outlines the CDR design status and the breadboard testing results of the development of an 100 W deployable, membrane-based solar array for SmallSats called DEAR. The design is driven by 100 W power EOL, operational life time of 5 years in LEO and its volume (1U) and mass (<2kg). The concept is based on triple-junction photovoltaic cells mounted on an ATOX-resistant 25µm thinfilm which is folded for stowing and stepwise deployed in two directions by 4 motor-driven Copper Beryllium booms. Further, an outline on the upcoming testing of the engineering model will be given. The PV system DEAR is set as IOD payload on the DLR Pluto mission on the second ISARAerospace launch in 2024. The activity is funded and carried out under ESA contract No. 4000133890/21/NL/MM/ra within the ARTES ATP. DEAR is a joint project between DLR, Astronika, AZUR SPACE and ESA.
• Astronika has developed numerous systems based on flexible tapes. The paper will present the parameters and performance of systems dedicated to CubeSats:
  • 1. Magnetometer boom system, RadMag Boom, for ESA’s CubeSat space weather demo mission RADCUBE - TRL 9
  • 2. Low Frequency Radar for the Juventas CubeSat in ESA’s HERA mission to Didymos asteroid - TRL 8; TRL 9 to be achieved in 2024,
  • 3. Helical Boom Antenna for ESA’s R&D project - TRL 5,
  • 4. Deployer DEAR for a 100W flexible solar array system fitting in 1U for ESA’s R&D project - TRL5.
